Ready to make some changes? Here are some of the hottest decorating trends for 2018.
- Ultra violet
Pantone has named ultra violet as Color of the Year for 2018. The institution believes that this shade of purple represents originality and forward thinking. Incorporate it into your décor by bringing in a statement piece or an artwork in this shade.
You can also use violet on an accent wall or on the ceiling to make a bold impression on guests. This way, you won’t have to go through the trouble of repainting all your walls, or run the risk of overdoing it.
- Warm neutrals
Can’t get on board with the ultra violet trend? Go for warm neutrals instead. Think brick red and caramel brown on walls, furniture, and artwork. Experts believe that warmer, moodier palettes will be all the rage in 2018.
You can balance out the moodier tones with light neutrals like soft ivory. A combination of both can help you create a warm and welcoming atmosphere at home.
- Brass accents
If you’re planning to upgrade your kitchen and bathroom fixtures, take it as an opportunity to bring in some brass accents. The dominant trend in home décor is moving away from brushed silver – golden brass tones will be more prevalent this year.
Brass fixtures can give any room an earthy and rustic feel. They’re also a step away from stainless steel, which has become standard – and therefore predictable – in home décor.
- Matte metals
Incorporate matte metals into your home interior by getting lighting fixtures and other hardware, such as drawer pulls, in this finish. The dull quality of matte metals complements medium wood cabinets. Experts also predict that kitchen appliances will go matte over the next few years, so don’t be afraid to go matte if you’ve been planning to upgrade your kitchen.
- Woven textures
Baskets and other handmade artisanal items will be big in 2018. These accessories will give your home an earthy, international flair. Incorporate this trend into your décor using woven rugs, wicker furniture, or storage baskets.
- Light wood cabinets
Experts believe that homeowners will increasingly lean towards light and medium wood cabinets with clean lines and flat fronts. These cabinets add a touch of warmth and texture to any space. The natural materials can also make your home more inviting.
- Statement floors
If you don’t care for accent walls, then perhaps statement floors are more your thing. Experts believe that more homeowners will integrate statement floors into their living space, particularly in laundry rooms and bathrooms.
Think bold geometric tiles, subway tiles, and light herringbone-style hardwoods. Statement floors are a wonderful way to make a strong impression without adding clutter to the room.
- Terazzo
This flat but complex texture made waves in the 1970s, and it’s making a comeback in 2018. Italian for “terrace,” terrazzo is the method of setting smashed marble chips into clay as a cheaper and quirkier alternative to full marble floors. Today, it is a versatile style element that brings variety into your home décor.
