Vero Beach was incorporated in 1919, but welcomed its first settlers in the early 1880s. It was named the seat of Indian River County in 1925, and has since been the county’s economic and cultural center.

The city’s abundant natural treasures are among its most defining features. It provides access to Indian River County’s 26 miles of pristine Atlantic Ocean beaches. It also encompasses the Indian River Lagoon, a shallow water wildlife estuary that makes up part of the Intracoastal Waterway, as well as a barrier island that serves as habitat for wildlife species like manatees, herons and dolphins. There are 4 beachfront parks and plenty of community open spaces. The Intracoastal Waterway is home to a 71-slip marina, from where boaters can sail their way to the ocean.

The city boasts a rich cultural scene, featuring museums, a historic downtown, professional and community theaters, and cultural and entertainment events throughout the year. Several structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In addition to all these, the cost of living in Vero Beach remains below the national average, and the local government has adopted policies that makes doing business in the city easy and convenient.
